Andy
and Lorraine have owned their 1964 Canterbury Pitt Kombi since April
2004, having previously owned beetles since around 1995. She was
restored by
the previous owner back in 1992 and featured in the June 1993 issue
of the
Volksworld magazine. After only a few months of owning the van,
Andy
and Lorraine were asked whether they would be willing to allow the
Practical
Classics magazine use the van for one of their Buyers Guide
articles, and she duly appeared in the July 2005 issue. Since then,
Lorraine has made new curtains and had the cushions recovered to
freshen up the interior, and they have also made new panels to co-ordinate.
The
wardrobes on each side at the rear have been removed to give a feeling
of space and light, replaced by wicker baskets for storage. The
engine is a VEGE recon 1600cc twin-port,built to stock spec, with
the exception of a Weber 32/36 carb and manifold kit. The van has
a Riviera under floor heating unit, which operates from agas bottle, which
is still in the standard location on the left hand side of the engine
compartment.
